Devastating Floods Strike Bukedea: Urgent Call for Aid as Villagers Left Homeless

In a calamitous turn of events, Bukedea’s Kolir villages find themselves submerged under floodwaters following a relentless downpour on May 4th, 2024. The deluge, lasting nearly 5 hours, has wrought havoc, leaving houses inundated and locals displaced in areas like Kochos and Kachomai. With crops submerged and ground cover washed away, the specter of food scarcity looms large.

According to LC3 Chairperson Mr. Ojekede Jackson, the Achomai Irrigation Scheme, already in progress, inadvertently contributed to the deluge by diverting water from its normal flow, exacerbating the flooding in surrounding villages, including those neighboring Achomai, where the Speaker of Parliament Hon Anitah Annet Among hails from.

The repercussions extend to Kachomai Primary School, which now finds itself grappling with the aftermath of the floods. Despite the dire situation, access to further affected areas remains a challenge for the Emuria TV team, underscoring the severity of the crisis.

In light of the unfolding disaster, urgent appeals are directed towards authorities and the Ministry for Disaster Preparedness to swiftly mobilize aid efforts. As night falls, the plight of the affected villagers grows increasingly desperate, highlighting the critical need for immediate assistance and relief measures.
