The Secrets to a Long Life: Honorable Minister Helen Adoa Reflects on Her Grandmother’s Century-Long Journey

Honorable Minister Toto Helen Adoa recently shared insights into the life and longevity of her grandmother, Loyce Norah Aumo, who lived to the remarkable age of 100. Minister Adoa attributes her grandmother’s long life to a combination of traditional wisdom, healthy habits, and a resilient spirit.

“My grandmother was an extraordinary woman who never had to visit a hospital or receive any injections throughout her life,” Minister Adoa remarked. “She relied on local medicine whenever she fell ill, which was rare.”

Minister Adoa highlighted three key principles that her grandmother adhered to, which she believes contributed significantly to her longevity:

Commitment to Marriage: “My grandmother always emphasized that women should maintain their marriages and not run away, regardless of the difficulties they face,” Adoa shared. This dedication to family and relationships provided a stable and supportive environment that likely contributed to her long life.

Healthy Eating Habits: Loyce Norah Aumo believed in the importance of a natural diet. “She believed in eating un-fried food and smoked meat for longevity. Greens were always part of her side dishes,” Adoa noted. These dietary choices, rich in nutrients and free from processed ingredients, played a crucial role in her overall health.

Emphasis on Cleanliness: “Cleanliness was essential to her, and she always matched her gomesi, dresses, or houses with this principle,” Adoa explained. Aumo’s meticulous attention to cleanliness and hygiene contributed to her well-being and prevented many common illnesses.

In addition to these principles, Minister Adoa reflected on her grandmother’s strong connection to her roots and traditional practices. Loyce Norah Aumo’s reliance on local medicine and her deep understanding of natural remedies were integral to her health and vitality.

Loyce Norah Aumo will be laid to rest on Thursday in Ojingai village, Kelim parish, Kyere Subcounty, Serere District. Her legacy of wisdom, resilience, and healthy living will continue to inspire her family and community.

“My grandmother’s life is a testament to the power of traditional wisdom and healthy habits. Her century-long journey is a source of inspiration for us all,” Minister Adoa concluded.
